This laboratory undertakes studies pertaining to the biochemical aspects of the disease, lipid biosynthesis, and metabolic disposition of anti -mycobacterial drug and intracellular expression of protein with mycobacteria using proteomic approach.

This laboratory has 2 core scientists, 2 research assistants and several technical staff. The laboratory has several analytical equipment viz. HPLC, GLC, spectrofluorimeter and protein sequencer.

Core scientists :
  1. Dr.K.Venkatesan, Deputy Director heads with laboratory and is Ph.D. from Dr.B.R.Ambedker University, Agra and has more than 27 years of experience pertaining to biochemistry of leprosy, pharmacokinetic and metabolic studies on antileprosy drugs and mycobacterial lipids. He has contributed 50 papers on these aspects. Currently, he is engaged in the studies pertaining to metabolic disposition of antimycobacterial drugs, lipid biosynthesis, intracellular expression of proteins and biochemical markers in leprosy reactions. He is a recipient of Dr.C.G.S.Iyer Oration Award of ICMR.
  2. Dr.Deepa Bisht, Research Officer is a Ph.D. from IMTECH, Chandigarh, has 3 years of experience pertaining to mycobacterial research and has 5 papers to her credit. She is presently engaged in conducting a DST funded project on intracellular expression on proteins with mycobacteria using proteomic analysis.
