This laboratory deals with studies pertaining to viability of Mycobacterium leprae which is assessed in the footpad of mice, drug susceptibility testing of M.leprae, other aspects of host pathogenicity in animals and is now initiating studies on infection on Mycobacterium tuberculosis in animals. This laboratory has two labs: one for the Mycobacterium leprae and another BSL-III laboratory for aerosol infection by M.tuberculosis.

This laboratory has one core scientist and several technicians to support the activities.

Core scientists :
  1. Dr.U.D.Gupta, Assistant Director heads this laboratory. He is a Ph.D. from N.D.R.I.,Karnal University, has 22 years of experience in this area and has contributed 40 papers. He is currently engaged in studies on testing of viability for M.leprae in the mouse footpad, drug resistance in leprosy as a part of multicentric study and is initiating studies on testing of drugs on Mycobacterium tuberculosis in animals.
