This laboratory carries out studies on the immunological aspects dealing with immune mechanisms in the host, antigens, and immunodiagnostics. Currently, the laboratory is engaged in the studies on immunodiagnosis, anticytokine antibodies, local immunity, mechanisms of autoimmunity, search for new antigens of M.tuberculosis and M.leprae, toll 2 receptors, cytokine gene polymorphism and nitric oxide metabolites.

This laboratory has 4 core scientists, 4 research fellows, and several other technical staff. The laboratory is well equipped with equipment like Flowcytometer, Fluorescent microscope & ELISA reader etc.

Core scientists :
  1. Dr.Om Parkash, Assistant Director & Head of the laboratory is a Ph.D from Agra University, has an experience of 22 - years working in the immunology of leprosy, has contributed - 40 papers on various aspects of immunology in the area of immunodiagnostics and complement mediated reactions. Currently, his interests are on developing newer techniques for immunodiagnosis and immune regulation through autoanticytokine antibodies in pathogenic and immunoregulation in leprosy.
  2. Dr.Beenu Joshi, Assistant Director is Ph.D. from Utkal University, Orissa . has an experience of 10 years working in the immunology of leprosy, has contributed papers on various aspects of immunology of leprosy. Her current interests are: cellular markers of DTH search for new antigens of M. tuberculosis and M.leprae, which induce strong T-helper responses. She is recipient of best poster award of IADVL 2002.
