This
laboratory has a focus on investigating the ultrastructure
of the mycobacteria as well as host responses from the biopsies.
Currently,
the laboratory is engaged in investigating the mechanisms
of endothelial cell infection and their role in transmitting
leprosy to peripheral nerves.
This
laboratory has a one-core scientists and one research fellow
on its staff strength. The laboratory is equipped with scanning
and transmission electron microscopes.
Core
scientists :
- Dr.V.K.Sharma, Research Officer heads this
laboratory and electron microscopic techniques trained
by Prof.M.Nishura of Kyoto University, Japan. He is Ph.D.
from Dr.B.R.Ambedker University, Agra, and has experience
of years working on the ultrastructural aspects of leprosy
and has contributed 14 papers on various aspects such
as, ultrastructural changes in the organisms after death,
accumulation of clofazimine in the cells, immunopathology
using immune and electron microscopic markers. Currrently,
he is investigating the markers of endothelial cell infections
using electron microscopy.
