This
unit has been involved in developing and applying procedures
for prevention of deformities and correction of deformities
in leprosy. These include correction of nasal deformities,
correction of claw hand, foot drop, neurovascular decompression,
heel ulcers, neurophysiological studies, restoration of web
space.
This
unit has core strength of 3 scientists and several other paramedical
staff.
Core
scientists :
- Dr.G.N.Malaviya, Dy.Director (S.G.) and Head of
Reconstructive Surgery, a post graduate in surgery
from Bhopal University, has experience of more than 27
years of work in leprosy research and has published 93
papers on various aspects pertaining to correction of
nasal deformities, correction of claw hand, foot drop
and plantar ulcers etc. He is a recepient of Padmashri
and Dr.B.C.Roy National Award His current interests are
foot pressure studies in relation to plantar ulceration
and in developing methods for closure of heel ulcers.
He is also involved in neurophysiological studies.
- Dr. Sajid Hussain, Assistant Director is a
graduate from Srinagar Medical College,and having super
speciality training in Plastic Surgery from JLM college,
Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, Post Graduate in Orthopaedics
from S.N.Medical College, Agra, has experience of more
than 23 years in leprosy research and has published 32
papers on various aspects of reconstructive surgery. His
current interests are correction of deformity of hand,
foot, face and neurophysiological aspects of peripheral
nerves in leprosy.
- The third position of Research Officer in surgery is
in the process of being filled up.
