Summary of prepared and standardised intramural project: Introduction: Translational
research in TB and related diseases is especially very important for our country. Effective
data analysis is very crucial for this. Proper home work is necessary before consulting
expert statistician. Now user friendly and effective software are available to perform this
task. To begin in this direction relevant features of SPSS, Prism and StateMate software
can be explored. In the present project to promote extensive use of these is planned by
organising various hand-on exercises, tutorials and seminars for researchers in TB and
related diseases. Primary objective: 1. Organising various hand-on exercises, tutorials and
seminars for SPSS, Prism and StateMate. Secondary objective: 1. devising user friendly
platform for data analysis for translational research in TB and related diseases.
Methodology: The following protocol /outline are proposed for hand’s-on exercises to
researchers with reference to research data on TB and related diseases. Examples of
software: Free software to try paid software indefinitely: e.g. Sandboxie. Meta
analysis and review of literature: Endnote free edition, Mendeley free edition, Ginger/
Grammerly free edition. Sample size: StateMate free try through Sandboxie. Epi Info
free edition , Tabulation: SPSS , GraphPad Prism (both free to try through Sandboxie),
Extensive data analysis and presentation: SPSS, GraphPad Prism (both free to try
through Sandboxie) Use of all relevant features in SPSS will be covered: The commonly
used and selected Hands-on examples of how to create various types of statistical
analyses and how to interpret the results in SPSS will be covered: Conclusion: These useful
software can be very effectively applied on huge data available for translational research
on TB and related diseases after hand’s-on exercises. Available hands-on examples given
in software can be used so as to make them more user friendly for the beginners.
Relevant data analysis for translational research in the present context of our country can
be short listed and standardised. Attempts shall be made to search and familiarize all
other relevant bioinformatics software useful for translational research in our country.
